Mindfulness: The Marketing Tip Nobody Talks About

    • May 16, 2020

The thing that has saved me from getting buried under the negative side effects of social media was learning to navigate it in a mindful, intentional way. Marketers love productivity tips and algorithm pointers, but I think mindfulness is something that we should talk more about.

Come say hello on Instagram @onlinedrea

I’ve been struggling to show up online lately. Li I’ve been struggling to show up online lately.

Life has felt especially heavy, and one of the reasons is that last week, our graphic designer, Amanda, passed away after living with cancer.

If you’ve ever worked with us as a client, purchased one of our templates, joined the Mindful Marketing Lab, listened to the podcast, watched a YouTube video, or simply recognized my brand over the past several years, you’ve seen Amanda’s work.

She wasn’t just “the designer.” She helped shape the visual identity of this business. She took ideas that lived in my head and turned them into something people could recognize, connect with, and remember. So much of what OnlineDrea looks and feels like today carries her fingerprints.

Amanda was incredibly talented, endlessly creative, and somehow always managed to make things more beautiful than I imagined they could be. Even more than that, she was kind. The kind of person whose smile made you smile right back.

She leaves behind work that will continue to be seen by thousands of people every single day, and I hope that’s something her family can hold onto. Her creativity lives on in every course, every template, every thumbnail, every graphic, and every corner of this business.

The world is a little less bright without her in it.

Thank you, Amanda, for sharing your gifts with all of us. You made this business better, and you made my life better. You’ll be deeply missed. 🤍
Everyone is yapping on camera right now 😂 So natu Everyone is yapping on camera right now 😂

So naturally, I had to look into the viral Yap Challenge and figure out why people are paying hundreds of dollars to post 40 videos in 40 days.

In this episode, I’m breaking down what’s smart about it, what feels a little unhinged, and whether it actually makes sense for your marketing.

Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. Just search for "Mindful Marketing Podcast" 😇
I’ve been in business for 12+ years, through sever I’ve been in business for 12+ years, through several pivots, two kids, a few messy seasons, and plenty of “wait… why am I doing it this way?” moments.

So yes, I have thoughts about what I’d do differently if I were starting over today.

I’d build the business around my actual personality sooner. I’d take YouTube seriously before I felt “ready.” I’d spend more time creating genuine relationships instead of overthinking every room I walked into.

I’d also make it painfully obvious how people could work with me and give the boring backend stuff the attention it deserves. Turns out, clear offers and functional systems make the fun, creative parts a whole lot easier.

Hindsight is generous like that. It shows you how much energy you spent trying to look professional when being recognizably yourself would’ve gotten you further.

Which one would you focus on first?

And if your marketing currently feels more complicated than it needs to be, comment LESSKIT and I’ll send you the free Do Less, Market Better Kit.
When I started talking about doing less marketing, When I started talking about doing less marketing, I noticed something interesting.

Some people assumed I’d stopped caring about growth. 😣

That I’d settled.
That I wasn’t ambitious anymore.
That I was telling people to lower their expectations.

Nope. 😂

I still have pretty big goals for my business.

I still love marketing. Honestly, I think it’s one of the coolest parts of running a business.

I still experiment. I still track what works. I still spend time thinking about strategy.

The difference is that I stopped believing more is always better.

More platforms.
More posts.
More hacks.
More pressure.
More guilt when life gets… well… life.

These days, I’m way more interested in asking better questions.

What’s actually moving the business forward?
What feels sustainable?
What deserves my energy?

Because I don’t want a business that only works during my most productive weeks. I want one that still works when my kids are sick, when life gets messy, or when I simply want to close my laptop and go be a human.

That’s what “do less” has always meant to me.

Not smaller dreams.
Smarter decisions.

💬 Which slide hit you the hardest? I’d love to know.
