This month marks the 1 year anniversary of my free This month marks the 1 year anniversary of my free social media mindfulness meditation series: Social Media Unwind.

Before the pandemonium started last year, I was playing around with the idea of creating meditations around social media. Meditation has played an important role in my life as the director of my social media agency and I don't think I could manage it all with this powerful mindfulness tool.

These current events of the past 12+ months sped up the timeline of my pet project and I'm pleased to have impacted over 600 people with these mini-retreats.

Social media in and of itself is not bad or negative. I'm on a mission to bring happiness back because there's so much potential here.

Here’s the thing, followers don’t mean anything if they’re not going to participate in your business growth.

I know a larger following can be one indication of interest BUT you’ve got to have a business beyond social media followers.

It doesn’t matter how many followers you have. If you don’t have a sustainable business behind that following, you may not see the success you seek.

The flip side is also true.

If you have a sustainable business, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to have tons of social media followers.

Today, I encourage you to pay attention to the right numbers. The numbers that actually make a difference in your business.

Dig deeper into your social media stats. Go beyond the surface to understand metrics like:

⚡️Impact 👉 How many people saw your posts this month?
⚡️Engagement 👉 How are users engaging with your posts? Are they saving them or sharing them?
⚡️Intent 👉 Are they following your calls to action? Are they clicking through? Tapping over to your profile?
⚡️Conversion 👉 How many people are visiting your website from social media? Are you seeing more leads come in from social media?

When we refocus away from followers onto the metrics that truly matter, we can better understand the role that social media plays in our business.

What’s your definition of success?

Especially when it comes to social media, I find that as online business owners, we so often focus on the flashy metrics.

🧩 Followers
🧩 Top line revenue
🧩 Newsletter lists
🧩 Podcast downloads
🧩 Video views

But none of those numbers really matter. If you think about it, on the surface, they can be indicators of success but they don’t actually mean that those online business owners, employees, and clients are actually satisfied with their contributions.

In other words, having thousands of followers doesn’t make you successful if none of them buy anything from you.

So if flashy metrics aren’t what makes us successful, what does?

Instead of external measures of success, what if we focused on what really matters:

🎖 Profitability
🎖 Space to create
🎖 Supporting our family
🎖 Creating opportunities
🎖 Sustainable growth

^ Things like these are what truly matters. Imagine how differently you’d feel about your business if instead of focusing on the number of followers you have, you focused on building a lasting business instead.
