In our Savvy Student Spotlight Series, we shine a light on our amazing Savvy Social School Alumni and let them tell their stories.

We learn what motivates them to keep serving their audience, what steps they take to run a profitable business and the impact of learning how to use social media marketing the right way.

Today we are having a conversation with the fierce Reinvention Rebels podcast host, Wendy Battles. Wendy is shifting mindsets and breaking barriers as she highlights what women over 50 are truly capable of–and it’s not retirement.

What excites you about your business?

In my Reinvention Rebels podcast, I share stories of brave and unapologetic women between 50 and 90 who have reinvented themselves in bold ways. Carolyn Doelling is a great example, she started her modeling career at 72! These women aren't afraid (or they are and they do it anyway) to pursue their dreams and understand age isn't a barrier. We can reinvent ourselves at any age or any stage.

Pretty much everything about what I do excites me. I love using my voice for good. I love the opportunity to celebrate, illuminate and elevate midlife and older women. In a world that doesn't value age and wisdom, especially in women, shining a light on the extraordinary ways women are reinventing themselves is pure joy.

I love the opportunity to light a path for others (and myself) about what's possible as we age. Our experiences can be as exciting and remarkable as we decide we want them to be. No ceiling here, just pure possibilities. One of my guests in season 4 is pursuing her full-time passion for acting at 85!

It's an honor to share these remarkable stories and help disrupt the limited notions about aging in our society.

What makes you different from others in the same industry?

What makes me different from others in the same industry is that I infuse everything I do with pure inspiration and joy. There are many podcasts out there about midlife women and related issues. Mine is different because I focus on midlife and older women and combine that with the idea of reinvention. The idea is that it's never too late to reinvent ourselves. I share compelling and inspiring stories about women who have already reinvented themselves to serve as inspiration for women who are unsure. Women who want to but don't even know where to start. The women I feature are incredibly joyful and full of life, their stories make you realize that if they can do it, we can each do it in our own unique way.

I'm part joy spreader, part inspirer with a healthy dose of fierce.

What is the one Savvy Social School training or tutorial you wish you had before you started your business?

I wish I'd understood the power and importance of having a social media strategy. Before diving in, it's so helpful to get the 10000-foot view. Get a good lay of the landscape. That helps with better decision-making and less throwing spaghetti against the wall as you figure it out. So the framework training would have been amazing.

What's one piece of social media advice you'd like to share with the world?

Be yourself! When you show up authentically and comfortably in your own skin, you naturally can connect with others and build meaningful relationships. Social media doesn't have to be as hard as we think once we find our own lane. Have fun with it and don't take yourself so seriously.
