Spring has officially arrived, bringing warmer weather and blooming flowers. If there were ever a season perfect for a fresh start, spring is it! While you are motivated to de-clutter your home and office, why not give your online presence a bit of spring cleaning?  Today, I have a few questions that you can ask yourself as you evaluate your social sharing strategy.

Are You Inline with Your Overall Marketing Strategy?

Compare your 6 month, 1 year, and 5 year goals for your small business with your current social sharing strategy. How do they reflect your plans? For instance, if your 6 month goal is to increase your mailing list subscriptions, then perhaps directing more traffic back to your site would be ideal. You can do this in the form of a promotion, sale, or contest! Get creative with it. Just make sure that anything you do fits in with your overall marketing strategy, both online and off.

Is Branding Consistent on All Social Platforms?

Have you tweaked your logo a little bit? Are you offering new services? Running a seasonal promotion? Your spring cleaning session is a great time to update your social media profile pictures and cover photos to reflect what is currently happening in your brand. Make sure to keep your all your images and profile descriptions constant across all social media platforms for the most effective branding strategy.

Are Your Followers Engaged?

Do you know who your top followers are? How about your top commenters? Are they engaged? Take a bit of time to asses your level of engagement. An easy and quick way to do this is to create a poll that directly asks users how you’re doing. Getting a bit of social feedback will help you understand the user experience from your customer’s end. Also, it is a free way to add more content to your social sharing schedule.

Is Your Content Engaging?

If you are seeing a decline in engagement, then it is time to also evaluate the quality of your content. How much original content are you sharing? How much are you sharing other industry related content? Much of what your audience reacts to is only discovered through trial and error. Therefore, during your spring cleaning, asses what content got the most reach, shares, likes, favorites, and comments. Then, keep sharing the content that is successful and re-evaluate the rest.

*Side Note: The key to examining your content reach is through studying your analytics.

Are You Updated on Any Changes in Social Media?

The world of digital media and marketing is forever changing. Make sure that you are up to date with these changes. Something like the recent changes in Facebook’s algorithms or the update to YouTube’s annotations could drastically change how you approach your social sharing strategy. Stay up to date and adjust when necessary!
